Bonnie Montoya Bomar, a native Texan, was formerly the Administrator for Academics and Accountability (Dean of Instruction) for 6 years at Richard King High School in Corpus Christi. Prior to that, she served as the first Science Instructional Coach for grades 6 through 12 in the Curriculum and Instruction department for all of CCISD. In 2007, she began working as an instructor teaching night and weekend classes in an Educator Preparation Program for an alternative certification program in Corpus Christi. She is an Eduphoria Workshop trainer, a TxBESS trainer, and has received training in the Education, Research and Development program sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers. In the classroom prior to being part of the Curriculum and Instruction team, Dr. Bomar taught Physics and Chemistry at Mary Carroll High School for more than ten years. During her time at Carroll, she spent five years as the Varsity Cheerleading Coach, sponsored the Physics Club and Environmental Society and was an active member of the Planning and Decision Making team. In 2003, she was selected Teacher of the Year for Carroll High School and advanced as a semifinalist at the District level in the process. She is a current member of the National Science Teachers Association, the Science Teacher Association of Texas, the Texas Science Education Leadership Association, and the American Federation of Teachers. In the community her volunteer work included leadership positions in the Junior League of Corpus Christi. She attended Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas, received a bachelor's degree in Biology and Chemistry, and she received her Texas Teachers Certificate from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She is certified to teach any science in grades 6 through 12 and has a Composite Science Certification. Her Master’s degree is in Education Administration and she holds a principal's certificate. She graduated with a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction in May of 2015. She is a devoted mother to her 17 year old son, Michael Ryan and is committed to making a difference for all students in BISD.
