SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE
“What the best and wisest parent wants for his/her child; that must we want for all…” Dewey We are approaching the second full week in August and it seems that we just graduated the Class of 2007. So many of you have been busy implementing our master plan that I know the time has flown by for you too. As I shared with you last year during the numerous meetings held with staff through BLT meetings, faculty meetings, and department meetings we would need the effects of the master plan to be able to meet the 2007-08 budget. It appears that we are going to be able to deliver on a 3% midpoint raise for all salary areas. I do not take for granted the work that so many of you did over the summer to help us determine a budget that will allow us to compensate our employees in a manner that keeps us competitive with the region. This year’s theme is “Kick It Up A Notch”! A popular food network station uses this concept to reinforce the need in food preparation to take the flavor and presentation of food to another level. Several areas made significant learner performance gains last year. Others have reviewed their learner performance data carefully to find that there is room for improvement. In either case all of the budget managers agree that we have plenty of room to kick it up a notch to take some to exemplary levels, others to be recognized and the district as a whole to be recognized or better. Simultaneously, the school board has dedicated considerable time this summer to special called board meetings focused on academic excellence through improved learner performance and a greater focus on professionalism. We have spoken about this before in BLT meetings and it is important that we reveal to our learning community our professionalism as we all work to add value to the children and community of Beeville. We will be sharing some of these new ideas with the principals who will in turn share them with respective campuses. Our theme will be visible as we meet in the A.C. Jones auditorium at 8:00 a.m. after we have a breakfast hosted by IBC and McDonald’s in the high school cafeteria starting at 7:00 a.m. (see attached agenda). In a continued effort to kick it up a notch we will invite all of the staff and master planning task force to enjoy a barbeque luncheon on Tuesday (August 21, 11:30-1:00) in the high school cafeteria. I trust you will recognize some of the cooks and servers as we celebrate your respective contributions to implementing our master plan and support for all of our learners. I have had the opportunity to learn from so many of you related to the dedication and quality you bring to the children of BISD. The stage is set for us to work together to reach new levels of academic excellence but it is important that we “Kick It Up A Notch” in the 2007-08 school year.
