The BISD District Education Improvement Committee (DEIC), which consists of teachers, administrators, parents and families, community members and other school employees, is asking for your input in the development of the Proposed 2018-19 Academic Calendar.  Parents, families and staff members are encouraged to provide input regarding the proposed calendar from February 12 th through February 16th.  The official calendar will be adopted in March 2018.

The DEIC will review the recommendations/feedback provided to create one final proposed calendar to take before the BISD Board of Trustees for approval.

When developing the proposed calendar, factors the DEIC will consider are:

  • what is best for student instruction.
  • that the state requires that all students attend school for 75,600 minutes annually.
  • that teachers must work 187 days per school year.
  • that the first semester should end prior to Winter Break to ensure that secondary students may take final exams prior to the holidays.
  • that staff training days will be placed strategically throughout the school year to ensure that instructional staff has appropriate time to review data to inform instructional practice and to develop a guaranteed and viable curriculum to ensure student success in every classroom.
  • two inclement weather make up days must be built into the calendar.

This web page has been created to accept public comments regarding the proposed academic calendar. To provide public comments, please review the initial calendar (it is unofficial and just a starting point developed by the Department of Learning and Innovation), then identify yourself as a BISD parent/guardian, student, staff member or patron, provide your name, address, contact number and email address and then submit your suggestions.

Thank you for your time and contribution!
