Liliana Martinez awarded a $50,000 Joe Barnhart Scholarship

(Beeville, Texas) – The Joe Barnhart Foundation (JBF) announced the recipients of the highly coveted Joe Barnhart Scholars Awards.

The JBF Board of Directors underwent a rigorous selection process, interviewing four finalists: Allison Arthur, Liliana Martinez, Reagan Norquist, and Emily Olivares. All are juniors at A.C. Jones High
School.

Congratulations to the 2024 Joe Barnhart Scholars Award recipient, Liliana Martinez. Miss Martinez was awarded a $50,000 Scholarship and plans to attend The University of Texas. 

We are so very proud of all the finalists! We would like to thank The Joe Barnhart Foundation and The Joe Barnhart Scholarship Program for their contributions and support!

All of them will walk away as outstanding scholarship winners. So, please join us tomorrow for the official
"The purpose of the award is to encourage students to excel.” The three remaining finalists will receive $15,000 for the Maggie Price
Scholarship Award.

Each of the four finalists this year represents an all-around student. All are ranked in the top 10% out of a
class of 212.

Allison Arthur
Allison has her sights set on Texas A&M University at College Station. At the university, she will pursue a
degree in Business Marketing. After she receives her degree in Business Marketing, she plans to continue
her education and pursue a law degree. Miss Arthur is a member of the Joe Barnhart Scholarship Program,
the National Honor Society, the Interact Club, and the A. C. Jones High School Choir. She is also an active
member of the tennis and soccer teams and the cheer squad. Allison has made the All-Region Choir the last
three years, recently competed in the All-State Choir competition, and earned 3rd chair. Miss Arthur
volunteers in her church as an Altar Server at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Allison also helped organize a
successful 5K charity event benefitting CASA, raising significant funds for the organization.

Liliana Martinez
Petroleum Engineering is a profession that Miss Liliana Martinez is prepared and motivated to pursue.
Liliana plans to attend The University of Texas and has completed 24 course hours through the dual credit
program at Coastal Bend College. In addition to taking rigorous school courses, Liliana has chosen to learn
how to weld, which she excels at. Liliana has earned several welding certifications and is preparing for a
competition through SkillsUSA. She is a National Honor Society, Interact Club, the Joe Barnhart
Scholarship Program, and the A. C. Jones High School soccer team member. Liliana has devoted much
time to volunteering in her church, school, and community. She is also an Altar Server at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church.


Reagan Norquist
Reagan plans to pursue a career in Real Estate and become a successful realtor. She aims to obtain her
license while attending Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, to receive her bachelor's degree in
business administration. Miss Norquist is a member of the Joe Barnhart Scholarship Program, the National
Honor Society, and the Interact Club and has earned several dual credit hours through Del Mar College.
Reagan also participates in the A. C. Jones High School soccer, golf, and volleyball teams, earning
Academic All-District honors in both Soccer and Golf in 2022 and 2023.


Emily Olivares
Following graduation from high school, Miss Emily Olivares intends to begin her post-secondary studies at
Texas A&M University. While there, she will major in Kinesiology and pursue a Bachelor of Science
degree. Her goal is to become a certified chiropractic sports practitioner. Miss Olivares' list of
extracurricular activities and volunteer services throughout the community is lengthy and includes
volunteering in her church, baking, and donating goods to various organizations in the community. She is
also an altar server at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Emily is a member of the Joe Barnhart Scholarship
Program, the Interact Club, the National Honor Society, and the choir. She has 33 course hours through the
dual credit program at Coastal Bend College.
